MindScope Mentoring

Mentoring is essentially about helping people develop more effectively. It is a relationship designed to build confidence and support the mentee, so they are able to take control of their academic and career development.

The Mindscope Mentoring is a mentoring initiative is led by committed individuals who themselves have greatly benefitted from mentorship guidance as well as having experience mentoring others in various career and academic endeavours. Our mentors are committed to helping the mentee develop social capital to complement their technical development.

The aims of the Mindscope Mentoring include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Choosing Career Path

Many individuals are faced with the challenges of choosing the right career path due to conflicting interests and abilities during their formal education. We acknowledge that there could be various options or strategies in reaching the same career destination. Our aim at The Mindscope Mentoring is to offer career advice on the various possible alternatives available to an individual; tailor-made to the capabilities and resources available to the individual in reaching the same career goal.

For instance, to become a trained accountant in UK, you could put in for an apprenticeship programme in a recognised firm and take professional exams while gaining the relevant work experience and/or enrolling for a Bachelors degree programme in the University. There are a host of other similar options available in various professions that may not require the conventional approach in attaining the same results.

To achieve this, we have mentors from various disciplines who have been successful in their chosen career that will be able to assist participants (mentees) in making the right career choice in various fields of endeavour.

2. Exposing Participants to and Developing Various Life Hack Skills

There are a lot of life hacks required to survive in the corporate world. These skills include but are not limited to CV writing, public speaking, networking, communication and so on. One of the core objectives of The Mindscope Mentoring is to expose  participants to these skills and support them in developing their capabilities in them.

To achieve this, participants will be encouraged to identify their skills gap through interaction with their mentors. The skill acquisition and development will be carried out via various media including one-to-one coaching, online webinar sessions and others.

This will instil more confidence in the participants to independently utilise these skills in the various situations they might find themselves.

3. Providing Career/Academic Role Models

One major source of motivation in succeeding in a chosen career and academic field is to identify individuals who have trailed and succeeded in a path one is towing and look up to them as role models. We at The Mindscope Mentorship have identified this as a key ingredient to success and have highlighted this as one of the cardinal focus of the mentorship programme.

Our aim is to match various academic and career role models to each participant based on their career and academic goals. These role models will be carefully selected and scrutinised by The Mindscope Mentorship team to ensure this objective is achieved.

4. Providing Support for Accessing Job Shadowing/Internship Opportunities

We will also provide support to participants in getting access to job shadowing and internship opportunities. This includes providing information on various openings on job websites, providing necessary support through the application process, providing guidance on CV and application writing, mock interviews, and assessment day preparation

The Mindscope Mentorship would also support participants in securing job shadowing opportunities with corporate organisations where The Mindscope Mentoring teamwork.
